TO KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE
Your personal constitution, which is your individual metabolic make-up,
helps determine how your mind and body will instinctively react when
confronted with and how much effect any stimulus, as a specific taste or
emotion, will have on you. This inborn metabolic pattern is called Prakriti.
The personality traits most prized or the qualities disliked all equally
arise from these tendencies inherent in your prakriti.
Determined by the doshic state of your parents at the time of your
conception, your constitution is influenced by your parents' genetics also.
And once set along with the tendencies, it cannot be altered. However, one
can learn to adjust so as to reduce distortions, prevent imbalances and
treat them when necessary. Also learn the whys and hows of dealing with
others. Knowing your own constitution thus allows you to understand the
workings of your mind and body better, thereby allowing greater control over
the traits through planned and adequate changes incorporated into your
lifestyle.
Characteristics of body types
For a better understanding of your Ayurvedic constitution and to
cross-check the results of the test, listed below are the principal physical
and psychological characteristics of persons with predominantly single dosha
constitutions.
VATA
Physically such people are either very
tall or very short, non- muscular, with thin and bony limbs and have a quick
gait with short fast steps. Skin is generally thin, darkish and cool. The
hair is thin, dark, coarse and either kinky or curly. The face is usually
long and angular, often with an underdeveloped chin. The neck is thin and
scrawny. Nose is small and narrow. May be long, crooked or asymmetrical
also. Eyes tend to be small, narrow or sunken, dark brown or gray in color,
with dull luster. The mouth being small, with thin, narrow or tight lips.
Teeth are irregular, protruding, or broken, set in receding gums. And while
the voice is weak, low or cracked, speech is fast with interruptions.
Creativity ~ Enthusiasm ~ Freedom ~ Generosity ~ Joy ~
Vitality
Vata people have restless minds and weak memories. They avoid
confrontation. Have active and sensitive natures and express themselves
through sport and creative pursuits. Likely to be artistic and creative with
a good imagination, they will sometimes overindulge in pleasures. And are
sexually the most active. Fearful, worrisome and anxious they are into
questioning, theorising and over-analysis. Often dissatisfied with and
unable to sustain friendships, they spend money quickly, often on trifles.
With light, interrupted sleep of 5-7 hours a day.
PITTA
A moderately well developed physique
with mascular limbs and a purposeful, stable gait of medium speed. With a
loud, strong voice and precise, convincing speech. The skin is fair, soft,
lusterous, warm, and tends to burn easily in the sun has freckles,
many moles, and a tendency to rashes. And the bodies are hot and sweaty.
Characterised by fine and soft, either fair or reddish hair that tends to
gray soon. Face is heart-shaped, often with a pointed chin. While the neck
is proportionate and of average size. A neat, pointed, and average sized
nose matches the average sized eyes that are either light blue, light gray
or hazel in color, with an intense luster which get red in summer or after
bathing. The mouth being medium, with average lips and medium-sized,
yellowish teeth.
Ambition ~ Concentration ~ Confidence ~ Courage ~ Enthusiasm
for knowledge ~ Happiness ~ Intelligence
Pittas have an intellectual and precise disposition due to a very alert,
focussed mind. Sharp and knife-like in anger, they are irritable, jealous
and aggressive by nature. Discriminating and judgemental, they are
articulate, learned and proud. With a developed sense of responsibility,
they can take decisions and organise affairs well. Argumentative, but with a
sense of humour, their selectively excellent memory makes them fast
learners. Moderately passionate in their sexual pursuits, they spend
moderately, usually on luxuries.
KAPHA
A thick, broad, well-developed frame
and large, long limbs go well with a pleasant, deep and resonant voice with
low, slow, rhythmic speech. The skin is usually thick, oily, pale or white
and cold. Plentiful, thick, wavy, lusterous and generally brown hair is set
on a large, rounded and full face. The neck is solid, with a near tree-trunk
quality. A large, rounded nose and large, attractive, blue or light brown in
color eyes are found in a mouth that is large with big, full lips. Teeth too
are big and white and set in strong gums.
Caring ~ Centeredness ~ Compassion ~ Contentment ~ Faith ~
Fulfillment ~ Groundedness ~ Patience ~ Sense of being nourished ~ Stability
~ Support ~ Tenderness
Kapha predominated people are calm, steady, considerate - stable, patient
personalities they are slow to anger. Not easily provoked, once angry they
do not calm down easily. They are honourable, true to their word and avoid
lies. Loyal, forgiving and understanding, they can be lethargic, even lazy,
if not driven by others. Learning may be slow but memory will be strong.
Excellent in logical analysis, they take time before reaching conclusions.
Long hours of deep sleep and a strong, enduring sex drive come naturally.
While they do save money, it does get spent on food. And there can at times
be an element of dullness, given that a kapha mind is usually too content to
seek fresh mental stimulation.

Treatment for Sexual Health
Sex has always been an issue of
dichotomy. An integral part of our lives and essential for the continuation
of the species, it is far more than just a technical necessity. While social
structures in India are quite strict on this, the study of sex - from both
its physical and psychological perspectives - has been practiced here from
ancient times. Unlike in the west, where this is a fairly recent phenomenon
and they are yet to find the proper line of distinction between sex in
general and pornography in particular.
On the other hand Maharishi Vatsayan's Kamasutra is yet unparalleled as the
most comprehensive documentation ever on the practice of sex. Unfortunately,
its classic treatment of the act and the art has often been misrepresented.
The ancient Ayurvedic text of Charaka Samhita provided complete sexual
solutions over 3000 years ago And the time-frozen, stone-carved, erotic
sculptures in the temples at Khajuraho and Konarak leave millions of
visitors utterly awe-struck by their sheer beauty, elegance and variety. An
undying testimony to how intrinsic sex was to the daily lives of people in
ancient India.
The importance of sex in our lives has remained quite unchanged. The
crucial points to be kept in mind in relation to the same being :
- Sex is an integral part of our daily habits (Dinacharya).
- Night and after two hours of dinner is the ideal time for intimacy,
as it is kapha time.
- An absolutely satisfying sexual union, when developed over time,
bestows you and your partner with health and vitality.
- For best results, each of the partners should be physically,
emotionally and spiritually involved with the other.
- Touch, smell, food, music and ambience play a vital role in
developing, increasing and prolonging intimacy.
- Perverted or unsatisfying sex has adverse effects on your mental and
physical health, as it aggravates your vital energies (doshas) and
reduces immunity. An aggravated vata will make you more emotionally
vulnerable and fear-prone, increased pitta will move you to anger and
even frustration and enhanced kapha will make you more possessive.
- The frequency of sex depends on your constitution and seasons - kapha
types indulge in sex more frequently than your vata & pitta types
thanks to the extra stamina they possess.
- Vata types might find satisfaction in changing partners. While the
difficult-to-quench-their-desires pitta types are usually in quest for
more intensity.
For more and better sex therefore, one can practice Vajikaran therapy
(virlification) - that part of Ayurveda which enhances male fertility and
potency. However, any misuse of the same may open up a deluge of emotional
and psychological complications. Use of similar medication (aphrodisiac
supplements) instantly induces sexual pleasure and excitement, increases
sexual stamina and promotes fertile seminal secretions.
Sexual Problems Found in Men
1. PREMATURE EJACULATION :
The most common problem of sexual dissatisfaction is premature ejaculation
in males. Because it cut shorts the duration of intimacy and the couple
cannot achieve full orgasm.
2. UNSATISFACTORY ERECTION OR SEXUAL DEFICIENCY :
In most cases the root cause for this is very psychological. However, it is
imperative to first check on all the pathological / physical causes. After
treating them, the patients' self-confidence needs to be restored too.
3. LACK OF LIBIDO :
The hectic pace of ultra modern lifestyle causes severe tension and
excessive fatigue within individuals. This is usually the prime cause for
lack of libido and unsatisfactory sexual performance.
4. OLIGOSPERMIA :
Male infertility is often due to the sperm count falling below the
fertility level. A large number of sperms are not motile, viable or exhibit
morphological abnormalities.
5. SPERMATORRHOEA (NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS) :
It is an involuntary discharge of semen without undergoing orgasm. A
distressing symptom in many patients, it leads to psychosomatic complaints
as lack of concentration, headaches, excessive sweating, giddiness etc.
Usually happens during sleep.
6. SEXUAL WEAKNESS IN THE ELDERLY :
With the hectic lifestyles of this age and advancing years, the male desire
for sexual intercourse tends to taper off early and sexual intimacy tends to
become unsatisfactory.
7) IMPOTENCY :
Mainly psychogenic in origin, it is directly related to anxiety regarding
sexual performance.
In the west there was some initial therapeutic enthusiasm over use of
testosterone in impotence. But it did not stand the test of time. According
to an article in The British Medical Journal testosterone is quite
ineffective when impotence is the sole symptom and testosterone levels per
se are largely irrelevant. Its rise in blood level is secondary to sexual
arousal. The reduction in the plasma testosterone level, which may be found
in chronically impotent men, probably reflects sexual apathy rather than
causes it. This is in accord with the generally disappointing results using
androgen replacement. And the high incidence of impotence in old age is not
hormonal in origin.
Sexual Problems Found in Women
Inhibited secual desire, Difficulty in reaching orgasm, Dyspareunia(Painful
Intercourse), Difficulty in getting aroused, Vaginismus Difficulty to
penetrate due to vaginal muscle constitution, FSAD (Female Sexual Arousel
Disorder) leads to complicate sexual activity due to lack of lubrication,
Sexual aversion disorer, Hypocative sexual disorder, Viginal dryness, Loss
of sensation/sensitivity in the genitials, nipple and low blood flow to the
genitials.
Buy Books of KAMASUTRA
Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana in English : A complete translation from the
original Sanskrit by S. C. Upadhyaya.
The Kama Sutra
The literature of ancient India deals with a great number of scientific
questions. According to ancient Hindu-wisdom, the life of a human serves has
been described in various ways such as the theme of Astronomy, Geometry,
Phonetics, Metrics, Grammar, Medicine, Politics etc and the total goal is
the :
- Dharma: (the complete collection of virtuous,
religious works as a basis for Families, Civilrights, Codex of
Behaviour, Dharmashastra, written by Manu).
- Artha: (material possessions, earthly well-being,
Arthashastra, written by Kautilya).
- Kama : (love and all its associated pleasures of
the senses, Kamasutra, written by Vatsyayana).
Dharma is obedience to the command of the Shastra or
Holy Writ of the Hindus to do certain things, such as the performance of
sacrifices, which are not generally done, because they do not belong to this
world, and produce no visible effect and not to do other things such as
eating meat, which is often done because it belongs to this world, and has
visible effects. Dharma should be learnt from the Shruti (Holy Writ) and
from those conversant with it.
Artha is the acquisition of arts, land, gold, cattle,
wealth, equipages and friends. It is further, the protection of what is
acquired, and the increase of what is protected. Artha should be learnt from
the king's officers and from merchants who may be versed in the ways of
commerce. Artha should always be first practiced by the king for the
livelihood of men is to be obtained from it only.
Kama Sensuous love, emotional feeling of attachment. In
ancient Indian thought is recognized as the stimulus of action and
personified as the god of erotic love. This is the enjoyment of appropriate
objects by the five senses of hearing, feeling, seeing, tasting and
smelling, assisted by the mind together with the soul. The ingredient in
this is a peculiar contact between the organ of sense and its object, and
the consciousness of pleasure which arises from that contact is called Kama.
Kama is to be learnt from the Kama Sutra (aphorisms on love) and from the
practice of citizens. When all the three, viz. Dharma, Artha and Kama, come
together, the former is better than the one which follows it, i.e. Dharma is
better than Artha, and Artha is better than Kama. Kama being the occupation
of public women, they should prefer it to the other two, and these are
exceptions to the general rule.
Moksha is freedom from birth and death. In Hinduism,
liberation from the bondage of worldly action is based on detachment and
freedom within oneself. The nearest English equivalent is salvation.
According to the Kamasutra, all of these aspects of the life of a human
being, should be of equal importance, without any of these spheres taking
precedence over the others. In order to attain a fulfilled and meaningful
life, the striving after one goal shouldn't hamper the striving after the
others. Neglecting one of these areas leads to a diminished stability and to
a dangerous imbalance in man. Practicing dharma, artha and kama makes it
possible to lead a meaningful and joyous life in this world and the next.
Sexuality and Erotic are seen as being important, integrated elements of
the human existence - the same as eating - and apart from serving the
sensual pleasures , also help mankind to propagate , just as eating keeps
the body alive. The sensual pleasures of erotic and sexuality not only serve
to increase the joy of life and maintain psychological balance, but aid the
further development of the mental-spiritual spheres. The senses are
perceived as being a refinement of the physical on a higher plane of
consciousness whereby, in conclusion, sexuality and erotic contain the
secret of life within them.
The Origin of the Kamasutra
According to old Indian sources, the ten thousand chapters of the Kamasutra
were announced by Prjapati, an abstract deity who, for a long time, was
regarded as the god of creation. Mahadeva (the High-Deity Shiva) compiled
the ten thousand chapters which in turn were compressed into five hundred
chapters by Shvetaketu, a teacher of philosophy and the son of Udalaka. The
Kamasutra was transcribed by Vatsyayana in the form of Sutras written in
Sanskrit, the ancient Indian tongue, which even today is a living, academic
language.
Sutras are directives or memory-jogs for adepts, which because they take
the form of short, maxims in prose, which are difficult to understand
without a commentary. We are dealing here most probably with predecessor of
the teaching-books , which was handed down by word of mouth. The treatises
of Shvetaketu on which the Kamasutra was based, have been lost. The
translations from the Sanskrit which we have today, refer to recognized
commentaries made in later centuries.
